Why is the ipad an « has been »machine now, versus the surface pro 3

Ipad was a revolution in its time. But nowadays, the laptop computers are getting smaller, faster, same range of weight, but more important, much more powerful.

The main problems with ipads compared to competitors are:

1. The email app from apple who is really not good, difficult to setup, and always problematic to send your mails, even if reception is OK, on the macbook laptop, by the way, it is the same problem. Moreover it is just an app, not a real email client, so no access of your complete email database, which is a problem for professionals.
2. The system is completely closed, only iTunes to synchronize. You want to transfer a map on jpg format to send to friends? to visualize documents? so complicated. On a surface tablet: easy, to put it into « my documents and any software can open it.

On the other side, the new surface 3 and the surface Pro3 got:

1. a real USB3 port for USB key,
2. a real minidisplay port for external projector,
3. a precise sensitive pen to write, sign, etc
4. possibility to run full version of « microsoft office » suite software, or if you want the free version, to install « open office ».
5. the choice on the email client, and the excellent « thunderbird » client, free and powerful.
6. A slot for a microSD memory card, up to 128 Gb

Just a detail: the power charger from surface pro3 includes an usb port to charge your phone: no need to travel with another adapter. Really, Apple got no more the monopole of the user-friendly attitude. Only remaining problem is windows 8 that was created without any global logic. version 10 this summer will correct (I hope) this point…for free… thank to Apple now supplying his OS upgrade for free, Microsoft got to follow 🙂

Conclusion:

I had for 12 years imac (2), macbooks (air, pro, and so on) ipads (3 in total) but now, I discovered the surface pro 3 since 8 months, and it is all changed. Using everyday a macbook air, an ipad mini 128gb, a surface pro 3, well, the choice is more then obvious: sell the iPad, its too locked to Apple ecosystem that makes it far more complex to set-up, than the Microsoft surface pro3.

Best configuration at date:

• an imac 27
• a surface pro 3, or soon the affordable surface 3 with atom processor, running a real windows.
• an iphone 6 (camera is great!)

L’Ipad fut une révolution en son temps. Mais de nos jours, les ordinateurs portables sont plus petits, plus rapides, même gamme de poids, mais beaucoup plus performants.
Les principaux problèmes avec les ipads par rapport à des concurrents sont:

1. l’application e-mail d’Apple qui n’est vraiment pas performante, difficile à installer, et toujours problématique pour envoyer vos e-mails, même si la réception fonctionne. Soit dit en passant,  sur le MacBook (ordinateur portable) le problème est le même.
2. Le système est complètement fermées, seuls iTunes pour synchroniser. Vous voulez transférer une carte en format jpg à envoyer à vos amis? ou alors visualiser les documents? c’est si compliqué. Sur une tablette Surface Pro3: facile: mettez le dans « mes documents et n’importe quel logiciel peut l’ouvrir.

De l’autre coté, la tablette/ordinateur Surface 3 de microsoft dispose:

1. d’un vrai port USB3 pour des clés USB (bien pratique…)
2. un port minidisplay pour y brancher un écran, un projecteur, etc
3. le stylet très pratique et précis
4. une vrai version de windows, qui permet d’installer Microsoft office, ou l’équivalent gratuit open-office
5. La possibilité d’installer l’excellent et gratuit client mail thunderbird, et avoir tout son historique de mail, dans le format d’une tablette
6. un port d’extension microSD pour mettre une carte mémoire jusqu’a 128 Gb

Juste un détail: le chargeur d’alimentation de la tablette Surface Pro3 comprend un port USB pour recharger votre téléphone: pas besoin de voyager avec un autre chargeur. Vraiment, Apple n’a plus le privilège de l’attitude conviviale. Le seul problème restant est Windows 8 qui a été créé sans aucune logique globale. La version 10 cet été permettra (j’espère) de corriger ce point … gratuitement … merci à Apple de fournir désormais sa mise à niveau de l’ OS gratuitement, ainsi Microsoft est obligé de suivre ces pas à présent 🙂
Conclusion:
J’ai eu durant 12 années: imac (2), MacBook (air, pro, et ainsi de suite) ipads (trois au total) mais maintenant, j’ai découvert la tablette-ordinateur Surface Pro3 depuis huit mois, et ceci a tout changé.

Avec l’utilisation quotidienne d’un macbook air, d’un mini-128gb ipad, et une Surface Pro3, le choix est alors plus qu’évident: vendre l’iPad, il est trop verrouillé par l’écosystème Apple qui le rend beaucoup plus complexe à mettre en place et utiliser, que la surface PRO3 de Microsoft .
Meilleure configuration à ce jour:

• un iMac 27
• une surface pro 3, ou bientôt la surface abordables 3 avec processeur Atom, l’exécution d’un vrai Windows.
• un iphone 6 (l’appareil photo est vraiment de qualité!)
